Day Nine: War and Whisky

Today we planned on seeing Culloden and going on a whiskey distillery tour at Tomatin, just a few miles south of Inverness. But first, breakfast!

Our bed and breakfast had a wonderful full Scottish on and the black pudding was vastly better than the one we had in Oban. It was a good start to the day.

Next we headed south towards Tomatin to see if they had any tours available. The roads were well maintained and it was an easy 20 min. drive. We got there and found that they did have tours available, but not until noon, so we made our reservation, and headed to Culloden next.

Culloden was only a short drive away but we we’re back on Bob’s road for most of the way there. The visitor’s center and museum were both excellent and we spent a good while walking around the memorial battlefield which was remarkably small and boggy.

There was a cow pasture nearby and we were able to get a close up picture of a hairy coo (Highland Cow) for the first time on the trip. So. Cute.

After the battlefield we headed back to Tomatin for our tour, but before it started Dad was able to fill a bottle of whiskey for a friend (And he got a taste of the whisky!).

The tour was really interesting and ended with a tasting (for Dad) and a small bottle of whisky for me (as the DD).

I got some scotch whisky for souvenirs and we got in the car to head back to Inverness.

After we dropped off our whisky in the room we walked into town and got some lunch, then spent the rest of the afternoon popping in and out of shops around town. We made our way back to the room and stopped into Morrison’s (I think it’s somewhere between Giant and Walmart?).

I still can’t get over how many more ciders Scotland has…

We were beat by the time we got back to the room and decided to watch a little TV and have a snack. We ended up snacking so much that we both decided to forgo dinner and instead work on syncing our trip photos on Google Photos (over 500 between the two of us so far!!). Subsequently, I’ve started adding more photos to my previous posts so that you all can see that Dad was taking photos of me too!
