Well we got up nice and early and headed to the Edinburgh Airport to get our required Covid test so that they will let us on the plane. We’ve been really good about staying away from people and wearing masks indoors, so I’m not worried.
Waiting for our cranial swabs…
The drive from Stirling to the airport testing site was just a little more than half an hour and it was a good trial run for getting to the airport in the morning. We got in the drive through line right on time and got checked in and our IDs verified. We were getting PCR tests so the cranial nasal swab was required. It gave Dad a bit of a headache and definitely made my eyes water. But we were out in no time.
We stopped to fill up on gas and get cokes and then we were on our way back to Stirling. We even saw the Kelpies on the way back.
We decided to get breakfast at the hotel and then made the 20 minute walk up to Stirling Castle through the old town.
The castle is really impressive and has the renaissance era apartments of James V and Marie de Guise which is a facinating look back at renaissance Scotland.
On the way back down the hill, we found a bagpipe shop.
And, Dear Reader, if you think I didn’t leave there with an instrument, you really don’t know me. I got a solid wood chanter with extra reeds and a book, along with a lesson from the owner, who was so much fun to chat with!
After that we continued on down the street in search of a map of Scotland for Dad to take home (no rluck yet…). We decided to have an afternoon snack instead of lunch and stopped by TJ’s in downtown Stirling (Excellent wings and the cheesecake was very good too).
We continued walking and shopping for a while longer then headed back to the room to rest and pack our bags. Right about the time we finished packing, we both got emails with our Covid results. After a nerve-wracking five minutes while we checked both of our results, we found that we had both tested negative.
We’re comin’ home y’all!
Dad and I went to the bar to celebrate with a beer and dessert, and discovered that the couple sitting next to us graduated from LA Tech. Because of course they did. The world remains extraordinarily small.
We went back to the room and relaxed before our flight out in the morning.
