Okay...I'm in Egypt.
I got here at 2 am and It's now...4:40 am. I'm in my hotel room, and I will admit, I'm panicking a little. I don't know anyone, I feel rather alone, and I don't know how to find food...and I'm starving. Hopefully it's just the 27 hrs. I spent on a plane/in airports today. I just need to take a bath and sleep a little. I'm starting to feel dizzy from exhaustion/sleep deprivation. Not the way I wanted to start this little adventure.
My converter doesn't work for three pronged plugs, so I don't have a way to plug in my laptop yet...yay. And it only has two hours left on the battery. I feel really disconnected, because I haven't been able to call anyone and I'm having to used a public computer to get onto the internet. I'm going to go take a bath and sleep, hopefully things will be better in the morning. Okay so I woke up late, at around 1 pm. Yay jetlag.
My friend Amelia and I had planned to get out and try to find a few things, but neither of my alarm clocks went off. Amelia is from Canada, but she's been living in Russia teaching English for two years. I met her this morning at the airport (her plane came in an hour before mine).
I woke up at 1 pm and was getting ready when Sid and his older brother, Phillip, came and found me to go eat some lunch. All four of us went to eat at the Marriott Hotel across the river, then changed some money over. There is this little Irish Pub there that just made me laugh. They were playing cheesy American love songs the entire time and Sid just kept making jokes about it. After that we went to the little juice bar in the Marriott garden.
After we got back to the hotel we walked down the street to pick up some water and some food for later. I can't believe how cheap everything is. I bought two 2-liter bottles of water and a bag of pita for 3.5 Egyptian Pounds. Not bad when $1 = 5 Pounds.
Sid and Phillip headed out for the night to go run around, and Amelia took a nap.
I came back up to my room and got the wireless internet set up. YAY! Internet rocks! I also figured out a way to get my converter to work with my laptop charger cord, so IT LIVES! I did some emailing and watched The Prince and Me on TV with Arabic subtitles. I laughed because all the movies on the TV are American; however, there are TONS of Arabic music videos…everywhere…
I'm really glad to have a way to talk to people from my room. Public computers suck. I think I’m going to go to sleep around midnight so that I can get up to walk to ILI tomorrow morning for class at 10. I’m meeting Amelia at 9:30 so that we can walk there.
