May 31: Moving

Got up early this morning, because I had to check out of my hotel. I packed up everything and paid for the room and such. Then I got in a taxi to go the half mile to the apartment.

I was supposed to meet one of my roommates, Meg, at 8:00, so she could let me put my stuff inside. I got there at about 7:50 and I tried calling her cell phone, and ringing the bell for thirty minutes before she opened the door. Needless to say…I’m not that happy with Northerners right now. Well…maybe just New Yorkers who think the world revolves around them. *eyeroll* I had to run to class, because ECA starts at 8:30.

We worked on how to order things, like pizza from Pizza Hut, over the phone, and have it delivered to the correct address in Cairo. That was fun:) In MSA we worked on reading more words, I now can read Arabic words and I can get the pronunciation right about 80% of the time. All this after only four days.

After class I went back to the apartment to unpack, but Anna and Meg wanted to go to the ATM to get their rent money, and then we stopped by the grocery store to get a few things before we go to the bigger store tomorrow.

Once we got back to the apartment, I went into hardcore cleaning mode. The girls that stayed in this apartment since November really didn’t care how they left things, and it was really dirty. I cleaned up my room. (I got the smallest, because I’m the youngest. Meg and Anna both have bathrooms in their rooms.) Everything looks a lot better, and my OCDness is calming down after the initial shock of how much dust and junk was everywhere. I still have to get two lights fixed in my room, because the bulbs burned out and the last girls didn’t care to have them fixed.

No wireless here, I have to walk down stairs to the café to get internet. Shisha smoke and all. I’m starting to get tired of the smell of shisha. It’s gross and makes my contacts dry up, but it’s everywhere in Cairo. You can’t really go into a restaurant without finding people smoking giant hookas.

Anyway, I guess I’m going to be spending a lot of time down in the café, because it’s the only place that has internet close by. I really wish I could check my email right now… I guess I’ll upload this to Live Journal later when I have time to sit down in Tasters.

Yeah so…it’s later now…and I’m not happy. I think depressed would be the correct word. Crying and depressed. The wireless downstairs is working…just not with my computer. Right now I’m typing this in Word, to be added later. I’m really upset about all of this. I think I’m going to read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, the guy that wrote The DaVinci Code. I don’t know when I’ll get this posted…
